2011 Chiles Valley Zinfandel, Frederick Block 9
50 bottles remain.
In 1928, Anton Nichelini planted a block of Zinfandel on his Chiles Valley vineyard and named it after his son Frederick. Some 80 years later, Anton’s great-grandson Joe generously gave us access to what remained. As some of the oldest vines in California nestled in the Vaca mountain range northeast of Napa, they enjoyed a moderately cool climate well into fall, allowing riper, deeper flavors to develop.
The 2011 vintage has a deep nose of dark chocolate, mocha, and blackberry pie. With a deep fruit core surrounded by baking spices and vanilla, this lush Zinfandel is both soft and smooth on the palate with a long, beautifully bright finish. BBQ a pork shoulder and introduce it to its new best friend.
