2015 Evangelho Mataro
Originating in Spain and also know as Mourvedre, Mataro is a meaty and full-bodied red, similar in body and color to Syrah or Cabernet.
Nose: Your glass will be full of dried violet, rose, and tart black raspberry aromas. A hint of smoke will follow conjuring up earthy elements such as damp forest floors crushed gravel.
Palate: This wine is both bright and very mineral on the palate, where boysenberry and black-plum-skin flavors meet with white pepper and lavender touches. The very expressive concentration of fruit is juxtaposed by brilliant acidity and strong tannins.
Pairings: Decant for an hour and serve alongside meats with lots of umami flavor––think lamb, pork sausage, or veal. Also consider this the perfect complement to your charcuterie board of salami and soft, stinky cheeses.
