2016 Evangelho Mataro
Originating in Spain and also know as Mourvèdre, Mataro is a meaty and full-bodied red, similar in body and color to Syrah or Cabernet.
Nose: The 2016 Mataro on the nose is a burst of aromatic darker fruits with an understated sweet element of vanilla and violets. Earth components follow close behind, which adds a complexity of smoke, gravel, and potting soil.
Palate: For Cabernet Sauvignon lovers, Mataro is the perfect alternative for a robust wine. With high tannins and medium-plus acidity, this rustic wine displays dark fruits and black pepper on the palate. There is also an herbaceous and gamey element, exhibiting the classic robust character of the 2016 Mataro. The beautiful dry finish leaves the palate wanting more.
Pairings: This wine is best enjoyed once it is open for at least an hour of decanting. Since this is a tannin-heavy wine, it is ideal to serve it with rich and herbaceous dishes such as lamb, veal, and pork. Portobello mushrooms and lentils also compliment the earth characteristic of the 2016 Mataro.
