2011 Howell Mountain Zinfandel
Situated at the top of Howell Mountain some 2,400 feet above sea level, the Black Sears Vineyard is kind of the Shangri-La of Zinfandel. With rich volcanic soil and a cool Pacific breeze, this former apple orchard, oozes of old vine opulence. Only in the mountains can you find Zin with this type of complexity and nuance. Wanna guess how hard it is to get fruit from a place like this? Hard. Really, really hard.
Classic, bold brambly fruit aromas with hints of cloves and licorice. Complex flavors of intense dark fruit accented by black pepper and hints of bacon (yes, bacon) cascade into a fresh, stellar finish.
