2016 Evangelho Carignane
For Merlot and lighter Zinfandel fans, this Carignane is the ideal substitute to try.
Nose: Aromas of cranberry, raspberry, licorice, and cherry cola linger in the glass. Vanilla, baking spices, and cinnamon complement the aromatic red fruits on the nose.
Palate: At first taste, Carignane packs a punch with its bright acidity and tart red fruits. Cinnamon, rhubarb, and dark flowers offer a melody of expression in this wine. The 2016 Carignane also embodies understated notes of umami, adding to the complex flavor.
Pairings: With high acidity and lower tannins, this wine is versatile in a plethora of food pairing settings. The advantage to Carignane is that it will add and compliment herbaceous elements to dishes like pork, turkey, duck, and chicken. The baking spice forwardness of this wine compliment spice-driven dishes with cinnamon, cumin, all-spice, and oregano. It is also a great wine to pair with curries and spicy cuisine.
